RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

Dental Fillings

Restore teeth affected by decay, wear or small fractures while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

When might you need a filling?

A filling is commonly used when decay or minor damage has weakened part of a tooth but the tooth can still be restored conservatively. Early treatment can help prevent the problem from progressing into deeper decay, pain or infection.

Common reasons for fillings

  • Dental decay or cavities
  • Small chips or fractures
  • Worn tooth surfaces
  • Replacement of a failing older filling
  • Minor defects that trap food or plaque

What to expect

Examination. We assess the tooth and may recommend an X-ray where needed.

Preparation. The affected area is cleaned and unhealthy tooth structure is removed conservatively.

Restoration. The filling material is shaped to restore function and bite.

Finishing. We check the bite and polish the restoration for comfort.

Which filling material is best?

The appropriate material depends on the tooth, the size and location of the cavity, bite forces, aesthetics and your clinical needs. Your dentist will explain the suitable options before treatment.

Think you may have a cavity?

Book an examination and we’ll assess the tooth before recommending the most appropriate treatment.
