ALL ABOUT RCT

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure used to save a severely decayed or infected tooth. Instead of extracting the tooth, the root canal removes the damaged pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth), disinfects the inner chamber, and seals it—helping preserve your natural smile and bite function.

Why Would I Need a Root Canal?

You may need a root canal if:-

  • The tooth is infected due to deep decay or trauma.
  • You’re experiencing severe pain when chewing or applying pressure.
  • There is lingering sensitivity to hot or cold.
  • There’s swelling or tenderness in nearby gums.
  • A darkening of the tooth has occurred.

What to Expect During the Procedure

  • Diagnosis – Your dentist will examine your tooth, possibly using X-rays, to determine the extent of damage.
  • Anesthesia – Local anesthesia is used to numb the area, ensuring comfort throughout the procedure.
  • Cleaning – The pulp is carefully removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and shaped.
  • Sealing – The cleaned space is filled and sealed with a special material.
  • Restoration – In most cases, a crown is placed on the tooth afterward to restore its strength and function.

Aftercare and Recovery

After treatment, it's normal to feel mild sensitivity for a few days, which can be managed with pain relievers. Good oral hygiene and regular dental checkups help ensure long-term success.
