What do we mean by tooth masking?

Tooth masking is a broad cosmetic term for techniques used to reduce the visible effect of a colour difference or aesthetic defect in a tooth. The appropriate method depends on whether the concern is on the surface, within the tooth structure, related to an old restoration or associated with previous injury or treatment.

Why assessment comes first

Possible approaches

Depending on the diagnosis, options may include professional whitening, tooth-coloured composite material, a veneer, a crown or another restorative approach. In some cases, no treatment may be necessary.
