What are veneers?
Veneers are thin restorations placed over the visible front surface of a tooth. Depending on the case and material used, they can alter aspects of tooth colour, shape, length or proportion. They are not the right solution for every cosmetic concern, so careful assessment and planning are important.
Veneers may be considered for
- Selected chipped or worn teeth
- Localised shape or proportion concerns
- Some forms of discolouration
- Small spaces or aesthetic irregularities in suitable cases
- Replacing existing veneers that require review
How treatment is planned
Consultation. We discuss your goals and assess the teeth, gums and bite.
Design. Shade, shape and proportions are planned with your existing smile in mind.
Preparation. The amount of tooth preparation varies according to the clinical situation and restoration selected.
Placement. The restoration is checked for appearance and fit before final bonding.
Veneers are a commitment
Some veneer techniques require removal of tooth enamel and are therefore not reversible. Veneers can also chip, debond or eventually require replacement. We will explain alternatives — which may include whitening, orthodontics, bonding or no treatment — so you can make an informed decision.
