COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Professional Teeth Whitening
Dentist-supervised whitening designed to lighten eligible tooth staining while taking your dental health and sensitivity into account.
Is whitening right for you?
Teeth can darken or stain for many reasons, including food and drinks, tobacco, ageing and changes within individual teeth. Whitening can be effective for many forms of natural tooth discolouration, but it does not change the colour of fillings, crowns, bridges or veneers.
Before whitening
- We assess your teeth and gums
- Existing restorations are considered
- The likely cause of discolouration is discussed
- Any sensitivity or untreated dental problems are identified
- We explain what result is realistic for your teeth
Whitening options
In-clinic whitening uses a professionally applied whitening system under dental supervision.
Take-home whitening may use dentist-provided trays and whitening gel according to an individual treatment plan.
The appropriate approach depends on your oral health, desired outcome and sensitivity history.
Will my teeth become sensitive?
Temporary sensitivity can occur during or after whitening. Tell us if you already have sensitive teeth; we can assess the cause and discuss ways of making treatment more comfortable. Whitening should not be used to mask pain or untreated dental disease.
