Dental braces(orthodontics)

Dental braces are used to straighten teeth, for aesthetic or functional purposes. Orthodontic treatment enables the maintenance of good oral hygiene, and chewing becomes more comfortable as the biting pressure evens out across the teeth.

In orthodontics, the dentist uses braces to slowly move teeth in a specific and calculated direction by applying pressure. The pressure causes the bone supporting the teeth to change so as to accommodate the movement.

Dental braces can be removable (by the patient as instructed) or fixed which can only be removed or adjusted by the dentist.
